About Baker College

Baker College is an accredited, private not-for-profit American college in Michigan that was founded in Flint Township, Michigan in 1911. Baker College now has thirteen locations throughout the Lower Peninsula of Michigan.
Baker is a career college, featuring more than 150 career programs within its system, although not all programs are available through all campuses. Baker offers certificates, associate, bachelor, master and doctoral degree programs in business, healthcare, human services, education, and technology. These categories include programs such as: nursing, teaching, interior design, architecture, automotive service technology, and computer and Internet technologies. It maintains a right-to-try admissions policy, and couples that policy with an extensive financial aid office to allow for a very broad base of traditional and nontraditional students.
Baker is part of the Michigan Association of Collegiate Registrars & Admissions Officers (MACRAO) Transfer Agreement, which provides for transfer of up to 30 semester credit hours to meet many (in some cases all) the general education requirements at participating Michigan four-year colleges and universities. Credits earned at Baker typically transfer as elective credits. Graduation rates (as reported to the federal government) vary by campus location, with graduation rates for the cohort entering in 2007 ranging from 7% at the Auburn Hills campus to 23% at the Port Huron campus.

Graduation Year:

I am currently a Baker student and I have been one since 2012. Starting out, I had to do a lot of testing so they could place me in the proper required classes. Fortunately, I did well on the tests so I didn’t have to take basic math classes of English Comp. 101. The bad part in the beginning was the fact that my credits from Mott Community College did not transfer over to Baker. So while I was started off in accelerated courses, I was starting them with 0 credits. I was bummed out. I thought I heard a rumor about Baker not accepting transfer credits but I didn’t think it was true. I guess their philosophy is if you’re going to get a degree from here, you have to earn it, from the bottom to the top. I’m not too bothered by this, however, because I only had 26 credits anyway but it would be a bummer for someone coming in who’s almost finished with their degree. I think that Baker needs to make these things clearer to prospective students because it can really be disheartening after signing up and paying the non-refundable application fee, and transcript fees if applicable, only to find out your credits don’t transfer over.

The tuition is a bit higher than most colleges but this is an accelerated school so you can knock out a 4-year degree in less than 3 years if you attend all of your classes and do well on your work. I’m getting so much out of the curriculum. It is a full load but it’s so informative. I’m learning things that I can definitely apply to my career and life so I would say Baker has this part down pact. I totally can understand why the tuition is a little higher than most schools. It’s not so expensive that my financial aid and loans cannot cover it, though.
